Opalescent Sabino Art Deco Glass from Paris
A smoky opalescent and cream colored Art Deco ribbed vase by Sabino. This gorgeous piece of Sabino art glass measures 5-1/2 inches tall by 4-1/2 inches wide at the widest point of the bulbous shape. The opening at the top of the vase is a approximately 1/2 an inch. The vase has a really gorgeous crisscrossing geometric line pattern and appears to glow or beam out blue hues as it catches light.
Marius Ernest Sabino was born in 1878 France, and studied at the Beaux Arts School in Paris. In 1925, Sabino created an opalescent glass with a blue hue and iridescent impressions and this glass is what he became most known for. He was more of a sculptor and artist than a glass maker but he was celebrated for his luxurious design work. In 1936, he was commissioned to produce chandeliers for the shah of Persia. Just as prolific as Lalique, Sabino's opalescent glass became rare and highly desirable after World War 2. This piece dates to the 1930's Art Deco period which was the height of his career as glass artist. This vase is a wonderful addition to an art collection, and would also make a beautiful decorative object. It is signed at the bottom by the artist "Sabino", and it is also marked "Paris".
