Antique Rare Chinese Silver Fish Server by Luen Wo
A rare antique pair of Chinese silver fish servers by Luen Wo, of Shanghai circa 1900. The serving pair are really spectacularly constructed, with detailed etch-work of two fish on the knife and two on the fork. The fish have remarkably realistic fee with finely considered scales, and hand-hammered patterns that have been chased afterwards to create such superb quality of craftsmanship. The handles are beautifully crafted with a cherry blossom tree pattern over a silver chased background of geometric designs. The fish that appear as drawn on are a nice complement to the heavier floral patterning. The knife and fork are truly a work of art and can make any fish dinner turn into a very special meal. The knife is quite sharp and the utensils are both in great condition with minimal use and wear. The knife measures 11 inches and the fork measures 9-1/2 inches. The weight of the fish servers is 173.3 grams / 5.57 troy ounces for the knife and 145.6 grams / 4.68 troy ounces for the fork. The knife and the fork both have the makers mark of Luen Wo. Luen Wo was a prolific silversmith in Shanghai, active during the last quarter of the 19th century and first quarter of the 20th century. His quality was extraordinarily high.
