Handmade Brazilian Butterfly & Marquetry Wood Tray
A stunning hand-made Brazilian butterfly marquetry wood tray from the 1930s. The tray features a meticulously hand-made inlay marquetry wood design around the border, which gives it an Art Deco look. The butterfly wings are arranged in a glowing pattern in the center and they are held safely under glass. A central bright blue butterfly, almost iridescent, is the protagonist of this symmetrical design. The butterfly is held in center focus inside a diamond form, and from this shape other wings are arranged in circular emanating patterns. The tray has colors that range from bright baby blue to yellows and orange tan colors. The tray has sturdy handles, which make it a fully functioning art object for carrying objects but also, it has a wire on the back so that it may be mounted to decorate wall. The butterfly trays became a popular vintage collectible item from Brazil. This tray measures 11-1/2 inches by 18 inches. The handles curve up slightly, giving the tray a nice feel and look. This piece can be a purely decorative object, because it is truly stunning and something unique to admire. The hand crafted labor involved in picking out the perfect hues and the arrangement in which the butterflies are set show the dedication to this beautiful and traditional craft.
