Naturalistic Movement Shiebler Sterling Silver Lily Pad Bowl
A lovely sterling silver Shiebler shallow bowl taking on the form of a curling lily pad. The bowl is in the Shiebler pattern 526, which is marked at the bottom along with the makers mark. The bowl has really beautiful organic motifs and details such as the asymmetrical curled edges, leaf veins that run from the center outwards creating a realistic texture, and etched lines alongside the bottom of the pad. On one of the curls of the lily pad there is a monogram that has been etched, with the letters ELH. It is written in beautiful calligraphy, distinctly of the late 1800s. This bowl is one of the lily pad themed designs that Shiebler so beautifully created in the late 19th Century. The George W. Shiebler & Co. of New York was known for his high quality silverware, spoons and bowls. The company was active until 1910. The bowl measures 4-3/4 inches wide and 1/2 an inch tall. It weighs 106 grams. Shiebler has some truly unique and beautiful nature inspired sterling silver pieces. This bowl is a gorgeous example of the naturalistic movement and 19th Century Schiebler designs.
