Egyptian Bronze Seated Figure of Harpocrates on a Marble Base
A finely detailed Egyptian bronze figure of a seated Harpocrates (Horus) dating to the Late Period, c. 661-332 BCE. The young deity, depicted nude, with right arm bent and forefinger raised to his lips, and side-lock of youth. Excellent patina. The wood throne is mid 20th c. and the stepped base late 19th c (added later).
The deity Horus, or Harpocrates in Greek, was the son of the Egyptian god Osiris and goddess Isis.
