Rare Wedgwood & Co. Set of 6 Sea-Life Motif Plates
An elegant set of 18th Century pearlware plates with an underwater sea creature design by Wedgwood & Co. The stylized sea life motifs are transfer printed and then hand painted. They have a really beautiful minimal design. These plates are really rare as they are beautifully painted with a wonderful color scheme and are in perfect condition. Each one is unique and the 6 plates make a wonderful set. The pearlware body of the plates was the earthenware popular during the late 18th century, which had a glaze that created a hint of blue. The plates date to between 1790- 1800. They take an octagonal form, and have a nice detailed repeating pattern on the edge. They measure 8-7/8 inches wide and at opposing angle points 9-1/4 inches. They are made by Wedgwood & Co., located in Tunstall, Staffordshire, England. Each plate is marked on the base. These plates are very hard to find today; they make a really wonderful setting for a special dinner.
