Mid Century Sterling Silver Juventino Lopez Reyes Swan Spoon and Bowl
Elegant Juventino Lopez Reyes, Mexican Sterling silver dish and spoon with swan characteristics. Reyes founded a silversmith company in Mexico in 1935 and became most popular for his superb modernist designs. The spoon is truly unique, with the neck of the swam being the handle and the face, and rendered eyes and bill at the end. The body of the swan is the bowl of the spoon, which has a nice curve to it to resemble the body of the bird. The complementary bowl has a similar integration of both organic and minimal designs; it is raised by an oval base and has a flat square projecting from the oval bowl of the dish to hold onto. The dish and spoon are perfect for serving a sauce, or gravy, and also make a beautiful and original addition to a silver collection. The bowl measures 8 inches wide and is 1-3/4 inches tall, and weighs 234 grams. The spoon spans 7-1/2 inches and weighs 113 grams, a total of 11 troy ounces. Markers marks are found under the flat square silver handle, along with sterling silver marks and Mexico mark. The spoon also has makers marks and silver marks on the bottom of the handle. This is a rare and wonderful Mid-Century Modern silver piece.
