Antique English Georgian Sterling Silver Creamer
This is a delightful English Georgian sterling silver creamer. This piece dates to 1805 and was made in London. The creamer is beautifully detailed with bright-cut engravings. Bright-cut engravings are made by a series of short cuts into metal using a polished engraving tool. This process causes the surface to reflect light and give an impression of brightness. At the center of the piece is a large “N” initial, surrounded by a ribbon-like design. There are four blooming floral engravings, one on each side of the piece. Below the flower underneath the spout are the hallmarks which provide the origin and date of the piece. There is a lion passant for sterling silver, a crowned leopard’s head for the city of London, the date letter N for 1805, and King George III’s head duty mark. Along the spout are reeded edges which meet to form the creamer’s reeded handle. The creamer has a circumference of 8”, the highest point is 4” and the base is approximately 2” wide. The piece weighs about 101 grams or 3.24 troy ounces. This lovely antique would make a wonderful addition to anyone's collection!
