Oustanding & Rare Antique Stained Glass Panel by Mauméjean Frères
Spectacular stain glass window panel by renowned French artisans Mauméjean Frères of Paris. Mauméjean Studio was founded in Paris in the early 1860's by Jules Mauméjean. The Mauméjean family was one of several to revitalize the art of stained glass, after a long era of decline during the 17th and 18th Centuries. Known for the exquisite and fine quality of their work, the studio later expanded to San Sebastian in Spain in the early 1900's with Jules and sons Joseph, Henry, and Charles. Their work, mainly comprised of religious themes, can be seen throughout Europe and New England in the United States, where they were often commissioned by hospitals and churches. This piece is comprised of mosaic glass panels in vibrant hues, supported by metal frames. The panel has a wood exterior frame with a beautiful walnut stained finish. Originally designed to be affixed into masonry or stonework. This piece was originally commisioned by a prominent family for their private residence in Vigo, Spain. Sadly, the residence was demolished several years ago after being used as a private school for many years. This is a rare masterwork, signed Mauméjean 1911 Paris Madrid, on the bottom right hand corner. Measurements are approximates.
