16th Century French Fireback in Cast Iron

Sold

A stunning 16th century cast iron fireback from the Loire Valley region of France. A luxury item that served not only to adorn the fireplace, but to protect the back wall of the fireplace and to radiate heat outwards. The decorative motif consists of the family crest with the Fleur De Lys, two lions and two hounds, dated 1586. Not only do firebacks serve wonderfully in the fireplace, but they are beautiful exterior or interior wall decorations or back splashes.
