Tall Austrian Art Nouveau Iron Frame circa 1900
The unusual silhouette created by the upper lines of this Austrian Art Nouveau iron frame circa 1900 are quite intriguing. Art Nouveau, the period beginning at the end of the nineteenth century that influenced design in both Europe and America, is characterized by a reference to movement in the natural world as opposed to a symmetrical, man made or machined aesthetic. In this tall frame please notice the rounded corners as well as the slightly convex shape of the iron that gives the piece an organic feel. The front of the frame retains its original painted finish while the reverse shows the oxidized iron indicative of passed time. This frame was an industrial piece produced in a factory and was discovered in a barn leaning against a wall. There are three of these frames and they are offered individually. Perhaps they were used as window coverings or they may have been gates but now their unique shape lends them for use hanging upon a wall where their texture and shape may be admired.
