French Antique Belle Epoque Aviary Or Bird Cage, circa 1900
An exquisite and functional French aviary intended for use as a breeding cage, with the cupola housing a removable smaller cage for the introduction of new birds. It may be used for any type of bird with the exception of birds from the parrot family, as they will nibble on the wood. The aviary has a teak frame with steel bars and a galvanized metal roof, and may be used outside on a covered veranda. Until recently, it was used to house myna birds. Aviary has been cleaned and restored, and the teak wood oiled.
The photographs that we are showing of the aviary were taken at the Kampong in Coconut Grove, Florida where it is being presented as part of a designer showcase. The aviary has been filled with tropical plants which demonstrates another use for the aviary other then housing birds. However, the cage was being used for the last ten years on an outdoor terrace here in Miami as an aviary.
