This is a remarkable 19th century handmade wooden box, carved from a single piece of hard wood. You can see at the corners of the book base that the box is not joined together, but curves to make angular forms and 90 degrees angles, making the corners meet but being made out of one piece of wood. This is quite a rare and highly skilled way of wood working. The grain on the wood, especially on the lid, is beautiful and on the polished surfaces we can see natural hues of red, orange, yellow, and even hints of green color vibrate. This wood has some burling grain in it. The front cover of the box is attached to to the spine with the original hinges. The box itself dates to 1850-1900. This rare book box is in great condition and will be truly appreciated by those that know wood working. The box can be used to hold small personal items, or mementos. It measures 7 1/2 inches by 4 1/2 inches and is 1 1/2 inches deep.
