19th Centruy British Colonial Satinwood and Ebony Cabinet

Early 19th wide-paneled and figured solid Satinwood carcass with solid ebony trim. Sri Lanka, formerly known as Ceylon, is one f the few places in the word the where Satinwood and Ebony are indigenous. As British Colony these became prized by wood workers at home. Here we have an example using whole timber to mimic the Britsh taste but with a local flair, the waves are motifs left over from the time the Ceylon was a Dutch Colony. Both the upper and lower spaces are separated by a shelf.
