18th century French Louis XIII style chateau armoire. The bold and handsome symmetry of this cabinet was a prized characteristic of furniture created during the reign of Louis XIII (1610-1643) and is fully visible on this piece from a later time. Solid walnut, in two parts. Upper cabinet with stepped cornice above double doors carved with raised diamante point (diamond) panels sits over a lower cabinet fitted with a single drawer. The sides of the cabinet are defined by deeply etched geometric patterns which complement the raised front. Raised on bun feet. Bordeaux, France.
