Louis XV French Armoire, Circa 1780 -1800
This is a magnificent cabinet with beautiful lines. The upper decoration is carved, not simply applied, and it mirrors the incised carving on the bottom in a lovely way. The original long hinges and curvy eschutcheons are here. The cornice is separate, as is usual for these, but this armoire does not come apart for moving. The wood has age signs that show this piece is mostly original. Beautiful armoires like this have come down in price, now that people are not using them to hide large TV's, so if you love the style and can use the the storage consider this.
The interior is raw space - there is one center shelf and supports for more shelves. If you are interested in having it fitted out for any specific use, simple or complex -- we can help. We work with excellent craftsmen here in eastern PA and we'd be glad have them build you a custom interior, for an additional fee. They are adept at doing work like this without harming the outer case. Of course, we're happy to sell it simply empty also. It might house a bar, hide office storage, a work as linen closet, or simply become a place for clothes. Of course we'll be happy to sell it empty also.
