English Victorian Mahogany Bookcase and Desk
A very nice English Breakfront secretary book case / desk made about 1860 in mahogany. A very nice compact size with lots of storage and a pull out desk drawer. The design is first seen in England about 1760 in designs credited to Thomas Chippendale. Variation of this design where made throughout the 19th and early 20th century. The finest cabinet makers still include these designs in their lines and often they are more expensive than the originals. This is true because of the high cost of skilled labor, beautiful wood and because they are seen as luxury items. Like a navy blue blazer an English antique will almost always be in the best possible taste.
