19th c American Mahogany Breakfront Bookcase
Stunning simplicity along with a proud silhouette, and gorgeous wood make this big antique breakfront cabinet remarkable. The form is unusually clean and crisp, with no mullions, no visible hardware, little carving, yet it brings the presence of age and authenticity. The upper doors are striking big sheets of wavy glass, and all doors, upper and lower, operate with keys. Dating from the early 19th century, the case is entirely made of mahogany with beautiful flame doors. The inside adjustable shelving is pine, currently painted in a milky green. This breakfront dates from 1820-1850.
At a little over 8 feet tall and a little over 9 feet wide, this architectural cabinet is made in two wide pieces, as well as the cornice and a footing base. The cabinet was designed to fit flush against a wall so it is shaped at back bottom to allow for baseboard molding. The base is 22" in the center, at the deepest point, the sides are 16" deep and the upper cabinets range from 9" to 13.75" deep, perfect for books or other collections.
