Art Deco period cabinet constructed from "palissandro" and "betula" wood, Italy c. 1940
An elegant Art Moderne/Art Deco bookcase or standing bar constructed from "palisandro" (rosewood) and "betula"(birch) wood from Italy c. 1940 with the original sliding glass doors. This extraordinary piece exemplifies the superb level of Italian craftsmanship used when creating and constructing furniture during this period. Not only were the best quality materials chosen but the design is tremendously striking and remains as modern to the eye in the twenty-first century as when it was originally made. The contrast between the colours in the two timbers is an integral part of the impact generated by this cabinet as the sections where the different timbers have been placed were chosen to generate the maximum impact possible. The upper section of the cabinet features the original pair of sliding glass doors that each have an etched and recessed section whee they may be easily moved from side to side with the touch of the hand. There is a single glass shelf in the centre and this interior was used to display barware
