A beautiful pair of Swedish Gustavian Style painted chests from the 19th century with leaf tip carving, canted corner posts, and square fluted legs. Each chest has three drawers, brass hardware and original locks and keys. Circa 1880.
The Gustavian style, named after King Gustav III of Sweden, is a restrained interpretation of the French Louis XV and Louis XVI style. King Gustav III was enamored with the neoclassical style and therefore created his own interpretation for Sweden.
