Grand Scale Painted Oak Bibliotheque, France circa 1875
Grand Scale Painted Oak Bibliotheque, France c.1875. The linear profile of this cabinet has an architectural inspiration that gives it a strong presence. Along with the clean lines this cabinet has been dry scraped to showcase the handsome painted finish. All four of the long upper cabinet doors have antique glass notable for its mesmerizing quality of waviness and rippled reflection. When opened the doors reveal adjustable shelving that gives a wide variety of display options. The four lower cabinet doors each open to expose storage space divided by a shelf that maximizes the available storage space. There are two wide drawers that separate the upper and lower cabinets each affixed with their original pulls. The great height of this bibliothéque (for it was originally used to house a collection of books) makes it quite impressive when seen in an interior. The wonderful shallow depth makes it ideal for areas where space is at a premium as in a dining room or hallway.
