Charming 19th Century "Lobster Sauce" Ceramic Round Box
This is a lovely English ceramic round box. Featured on the box is a charming scene of a large fish, a cat and a lobster clamping down on the cat’s paw. The piece is unmarked but comes from either Straffordshire or its surrounding areas, circa 1850. The round box has a diameter of 4 1/8” and is in good visual condition. However, due to the age of the piece there is slight glaze crazing, some flakes to the underside of the rim and edge of the flange on the cover. Additionally there are some hairline cracks on the flange of the cover. The image on the box is in reference to a plate in the 1848 book, “Godey’s Ladys Book”, entitled “Lobster Sauce”. This is a charming piece of history begging to be added to your collection!
