Vintage Mid-Century Cubist Tile Art by De Barde for Harris G. Strong (1920 - 2006)
This is an amazing and fabulous example of Mid-Century tile art by De Barde for Harris G. Strong (retains original labels and is pencil signed) which is the epitome of the cubist period of the Strong studio. This lovely piece has been custom framed with four beveled & staggered mats in earth tones which complement the tile perfectly creating a sensual and earthy purity which is just lovely! It is signed in pencil "Natitat" & "De Barde" on the bottom mat and has been framed in a bronze-toned metal which gives it a total "Zen" allure. In 1970, a fire destroyed all of Mr. Strong's pottery glaze formulas he had developed for more than 20 years and he discontinued his pottery work and focused instead on his prints, serigraphs and other works on paper and thus we are dating this piece as circa 1950-60. The tile itself measures approximately 8" wide and 11" tall and framed is 20" wide and 24" tall. We also have a complementary matching piece (framed the same as well) also available. Please inquire if interested in both pieces.
