Boch Frerés Art Deco Glazed Pottery Floral Vase
This is a beautiful art deco glazed pottery vase, manufactured by Boch Frerés in 1925. It features a gorgeous floral design rendered in mint green against a rich brown background. It was designed by Franco-Belgian ceramic artist, Charles Catteau.
Catteau was an innovator in modern ceramics and was well-known and respected for his art deco designs. He was promoted to head of the decoration department at Boch Frerés in 1907, at the mere age of 27. He was influenced by the great creative art movements of the time, including Africanism, Japonism, Cubism, and Abstraction. He drew inspiration from observing nature and integrated plants, animals, and geometric motifs into his designs. His pieces are characterized by these motifs, the vivid colors he used to render them, and the innovative shapes that he played with.
This vase is in excellent condition. It measures 11 1/2" x 5 3/4" at its widest point. The mouth of the vase is 2" wide. The bottom is marked "BOCH FRERES KERAMIS," "MADE IN BELGIUM," the decor number "D. 2256," "L," "T," and the design stamp "1004."
