Design by Hugues Protât, the bird is naturally modelled with Heron blue and white plumage, standing among reeds and lily pads on an oval mound base, with a fish in the beak forming the handle and spout of the ewer.

The piece bears maker's marks for the Minton pottery, shape number #1241 with the year cypher for 1867, measurements 21 ¾ inches high
