Pair of Vintage Italian Ceramic Handpainted Deruta Vases
This impressive pair of large hand-painted vases was created in the early 20th century in the small village of Deruta in Umbria, Italy. Deruta is renowned for its ceramics with both small artisan workshops and large production workshops filling the small town. Ceramics have been made in Deruta since the early Middle Ages.
These vases have different yet complementary hand-painted pastoral scenes with a typical Deruta-style geometric design at the top rim of the vase. This pair would make a bold statement in an entryway – and could certainly be used for umbrellas and walking sticks. Both vases have old repairs to the exterior surface, but the damage was not structural and the repairs do not detract from their beauty.
