A French Palissy style Majolica trompe-l’oeil oval dish (circa 1865) by Victor Barbizet. Molded and applied with a cluster of three fish, among shells and leafy fronds, a snake, a lizard and insects at the rim.
Victor and Achille Barbizet (1825-1890) rarely signed their works; however a few examples do bear the mark “VB” and somewhat more are signed “AB” the initials are painted or impressed.
