Scottish Ram Horn Snuff Mull with Sterling Silver
This snuff mull is an unique, antique horn of a ram from Scotland, with a sterling silver rim and lid decoration. The snuff mull was traditionally carried by men in the Scottish countryside and was a highly valued decorative as well as personal item. To create this snuff mull the horn of the ram was hollowed and heated, then shaped and curled into its dramatic form. Even the lid of this snuff mull is hand shaped and made out of organic material. The lid is attached to the horn with a nice hand shaped piece of sterling silver that takes on a half moon pattern. There is also an oval piece of silver on the top, which is a great space for an etching of initials, or monogram. On the inside is the original cork stopper, which is still functioning and in great condition for its age- it also helps the lid fit back on and close tightly. The snuff mull is 2.5 inches long by approximately 1.5 inches at its widest point. Its a wonderful conversation piece, a beautiful desk item, and it can also still be used to carry tobacco. Circa 1830.
