19th Century English Bretby Terra Cotta Glass Eyed Cat
A 19th Century, English, Bretby terra cotta Black Glass Eyed Cat. Bretyby pottery of this type was made I in 1891. You can see the stamp of the makers mark on the bottom of the cat. It is made of a Red clay, and painted a flat matt black, with a red ball that the cat is holding. There are Green Glass eyes molded in place. It is 10 inches long , by 4 1/2 inches tall. The tail has an open gap in the mold, and its right leg is holding the ball in place. A great cat find.
