Pair of English White Ironstone Tureens by Samuel Alcock and Co.

A rare pair of English white ironstone serving tureens potted up in Gothic hexagon shape with a floral acorn finial and framed leaf motif. Both have an impressed stamp on the bottom that reads: Semi porcelain, (Samuel) Alcock and Co., Hill Pottery, Burslem. There is crackling or crazing in the clear over glaze this is not uncommon in old pieces and both tureens are in mint condition with no hairlines, cracks or chips.

Commentary

"One of the safest ways to attempt to remove brown stains underneath the crazing is by soaking the ironstone in 3% hydrogen peroxide. This is just the regular hydrogen peroxide that you can get from the drugstore. Put the lid on the plastic tub and soak for about two days. Wash and let dry out in the open, preferably in a sunny place and voile!"
