19th Century 12 Silver Spoon Set by Compere in Rosewood Box
An elegant set of 12 French antique sterling silver spoons by Ernest Compere in a rosewood case lined with royal blue. The presentation of these spoons is as exquisite as the spoons themselves. The french spoons have a meticulously crafted foliage design on the handles, as well as the maker's mark- "un lapin courant"- a running rabbit with the letters E and C, which is the Compere mark. The singularly French bigorne, or grasshopper mark for the guarantee of silver quality is also visible on the spoon. The French are known for their unique and superb silver-work. The organic motifs decorate front and back. On the back of the handle there is an AC monogram in elegant script; just opposite, on the front of the end of the handle there is space for a new personalized engraving is one so desires. The spoons are beautiful to handle, and feel wonderfully smooth. They are 5 3/4 inches in length, and weight 10.38 troy ounces. The box measures 6-3/4 x 7-1/2 x1-1/2 inches. The box has an antique key hole, but no key. Compere was active in Paris on rue Quincampoix between 1868-1888. These silver spoons are a wonderful set to own, made of beautiful antique silver with a distinctive look.
