Elegant Georgian Era Tortoiseshell Toothpick Case
A tortoise shell tooth pick case, or portable box for small items. This box dates back to the Georgian era, circa 1840, when tortoiseshell was a luxury material that was used to construct many decorative objects. The miniature box measures 2 inches tall by 1-1/4 inches in diameter, big enough for a pair of earrings, some toothpicks, or other small items that need to be carried safely. It has the original red velvet lining on the interior still, although very worn, is reminiscent of the elegance portrayed by this unique small luxury item. The tortoise shell has no nicks and has a nice color and sheen to it. It is in great condition for its age. The lid opens and closes perfectly, with a silver trim decorating the opening, etched with a small floral motif. Made to carry small personal objects with elegance and style.
