French Antique Lacquered Chinoiserie Box or Tea Caddy
Pictured here is a very nice 19th Century Chinoiserie Tea Caddy. It is constructed of wood, with a black lacquer over lay. These were rare in the 19th century, as most people if you had money just had a plain tea caddy. There are no inserts to this one, but given it has a key hole, with a key, we believe it to be a Tea Caddy. Tea caddies had locks on them to keep people from stealing their tea. This is a wonderful example of a nice oriental design all the way around it. It includes a working key, and lock.
