English Edwardian Rosewood Parquetry Tea Caddy Box
Elegant turn of the century English Edwardian parquetry tea caddy made of rosewood. Parquetry is very similar to marquetry, the use of veneers to make decorative patterns but here rectangular pieces of wood veneer make up a simple repeating geometric pattern. The box is minimal in its design, making it stand out. Once opened, it has three boxes that can hold tea. If the lid of the smaller interior boxes is lifted we can see faded silver inlay, which once decorated all the interior. Each lid has a geometric design and a brass attachment in the center. Every lid and around the larger box there is clean line work, and every edge has been stained a vibrant green to make the geometric designs pop out against the silver interior. The beautiful design still holds; there is slight warping of the wood for it is old in age but there is no peeling of the veneer, and everything shuts and fits just right. This box can be used in its traditional sense as a tea caddy or it can be even used to hold valuables. It has a perfectly working lock and key included. Each interior box is 3 by 5 inches.
