Commentary

"Sergent became an important majolica maker from the School of Paris around 1870, specializing in Palissy ware, ceramics produced in the style of the famous sixteenth century French potter, Bernard Palissy, who popularized a rustic form of ceramic art. He made all of his materials, including his enamels, glazes and even his own clay formula, as well as his own molds. Sergent exhibited at International Exhibitions in Amsterdam, London, Paris and Vienna."
