Contemporary Japanese Mokume Gane Ring

This Mokume Gane ring features alternating layers of 950 palladium, sterling silver and 14 karat gold. Mokume Gane which translates from Japanese as "wood grain" or "curly (wood) grain" is an ancient Japanese technique that bonds numerous layers of precious metals into a single piece that is then worked into beautiful patterns. This rings was constructed in the traditional manner; a billet of mokume is patterned while flat, and then shaped into a ring. This metal work and decorative craft was traditionally used on swords in 17th Century Japan. Today the craft survives in jewelry pieces. This ring is marked on the inside with Palladium, Sterling Silver and 14K Gold. It is a beautiful ring for a man; it is a simple band that holds much history and craftsmanship. Great soft polished finish, feels and looks great. Circa 1990. Ring size 9.5.
