Mid-Century Antonio Pineda Mexican Silver Earrings
These rectangular Mexican Silver earrings have a really original look, a minimalist style and Mid-century feel to them. The earrings are screw back, are rectangular, angular and also concave, a nice deco design. and The rectangular concave earrings measure 3/4 of an inch by 1/4 of an inch. They have the Antonio Pineda maker's mark on the back of one of them and the 970 silver mark on the back of the other one. The maker's mark is from after 1953, which dates it to the 50's. Pineda was one of the most important silversmiths of Taxco, Mexico. His signature style was formed in the 50's; he began training in the early 1940s, and at the time was already making quite innovative designs . He became the preeminent producer of Mexican Modernism in the decorative arts. In the 50's he won the Presidential Prize during the Taxco silver fairs twice, in 1953 and 1959. In the 80's he helped found the Taxco Museum of silver. He became very important in Taxco, and his name and design were synonymous with Mexican Silver. These earrings look contemporary but are also are a nice vintage item, made by quite a remarkable and timeless silversmith from Mexico.
