Early Victorian Vauxhall Fly Shaped Dangle Earrings
These amazing earrings feature the coolest red glass flies. The brass flies have beautifully cut glass wings that are attached to the brass flashing mirror like sparkles. The bottom of the flies have the Vauxhall hallmark and the little legs of the flies. They are suspending by 14K gold Eruowires. The glass material is a form of mirror glass made specifically at a glassworks in Vauxhall, England. The beautiful deep red/ burgandy color of the glass resembles the best colored bohemian garnets. Vauxhall were famous for producing this beautiful color. These earrings are from about 1860 and are extremely rare, they are in excellent condition and are a fun conversation piece. Victorians once respected flies enough to consider them worthy of symbolism; they represented humility and the keeper of secrets. Each fly measures 3/4" and with the earring wire 1".
