Austro Hungarian Pendant Necklace with Gilt Silver, Garnets, Emeralds and Pearls
This beautiful Austro Hungarian necklace is a combination of stones, filigree cast metal and elegant design. Suspended from a chain are 12 cast links and two larger pendant pieces. The piece is made out of gilt silver and houses pearls, garnets and emeralds as well as an central enameled flower detail. It is 17" in length with pendant being roughly 1 1/2" x 1 1/2". The piece is in very good condition for the age of the piece. There is one split pearl in the lower dangle of the pendant During the Georgian Period, the Austro-Hungarian Empire established itself as a place to buy jewelry of the highest craftsmanship. In the 1800's, jewelers of the region, began to combine their elaborate filigreed designs in silver and gold-tone with shimmering experimental pastes (glass stones), semi-precious stones, seed pearls, and brightly colored enamels on Renaissance Revival pieces. circa 1830
