Elegant 19th Century Sterling Silver Reticulated Watch Fob-Pendant
Originally a watch fob, this sterling silver poiece can be worn as a lovely antique pendant. The back of the pendant has a 1900 Birmingham hallmark, HB, the mark used by Henry Hutton Bourne. Additional marks on the pendant include a lion passant, indicating silver content, the city mark and date mark of 1878. The pendent is beautifully made by cutting out silver. It has stunning reticulated silver work, creating the negative spaces inside the one piece of silver. It has meticulous and detailed silver chasing, creating a variety of textures that catch the light. At the center, on the front, there is a shield with the words Abbey St, SS and the date 1904 engraved in beautiful script. Perhaps this was the address of the owner of this watch fob, over a hundred years ago. Also, when turned over, the back is engraved with equally ornate and wonderful script that spells the name Maud Talbot. Weighs 9.8 grams or .3 troy ounces. It measures 1 -7/8 by 1 -1/4 inches, including the top ring. An elegant piece of silver jewelry with a historical value and unsurpassable craftsmanship.
