Georgian Sterling Silver & Gold Back Diamond Flower Pendant
This diamond flower cluster pendant from the 1830's features a bright selection of rose cut diamonds that are encased in a Georgian setting. The setting of the diamonds is antique, and slightly irregular looking because they are surrounded by silver. The size of the diamonds is hard to measure for this very reason. There are a total of 13 diamonds of various sizes, one of them, the largest, makes the center flower piece. This diamond measures approximately 4mm, and the pendent measures approximately 1.5 x 1 inch. The flower cluster pendant of many small flowers on a bending branch that circle around a central flower is made in silver with a gold backing. This was quite common for the Georgian era. The silver color was preferred because the tarnish would set back the diamonds and create a more vibrant look. The chain that the pendant comes with is a link pattern sterling silver chain that measures 20 inches and complements the pendant well. The pendant was once a brooch, but looks quite lovely as it falls from the chain and is worn around the neck. This pendant has noticeably great craftsmanship with hard work invested in the construction of this piece. The slight arc created by the flower arrangement makes this piece very romantic, a perfect piece of jewelry to add a spark to a night gown or other evening dress.
