Etowah Indian Mound Black Steatite Skull Form Ceremonial Pipe

This is a fascinating artifact; a black steatite skull-shaped ceremonial pipe, made by the prehistoric Indian tribes who constructed the Etowah Mounds in Georgia. It is in very good condition, especially considering the fact that it was made over a thousand years ago. The skull form was carved from the rock and decorated with crude lines, swirls, and dots scratched into the surface. There is a large hole in the top of the skull to place smoking material and another at the back of the skull to inhale smoke through. This amazing piece has a great patina and a formidable presence.
