Set of Three 19th c. Italian Altar Cards Cantagloria

Sold

Set of three 19th century embossed brass over wood altar cards or “cantagloria” from Sicily. These would have been placed on the altar only during Mass and they contain the prayers that the priest would have recited during the Mass. Like sacred cue cards! While altar cards were always made in sets of three, we do not often find a complete set. Often, mirrors are placed inside of altar card frames to use as home décor, and that could be done with these beautiful frames as well.
Dimensions of larger cantagloria: 11” w x 1” d x 12 ¾” h
Dimensions of two smaller ones: 8 ½” w x 1” d x 9 ½” h
