Lacquered Japanese Shrine Cabinet, circa 1800

An antique lacquered wood Japanese shrine circa 1800. Just under six feet tall, the shrine has two large doors that open onto a space where the worshipper can place statues, incense, offerings, et cetera. The inside space and doors are in a burnished gold color, as are the fittings and decorative plaques on the outside. The base of the shrine has two drawers, lined in red, and above the drawers is a pull out shelf, perhaps for a worshipper's offerings. The back and side are fitted with a system of ropes intended for use in transporting the shrine. Height 71.25 inches Width 31.00 inches Depth 26.00 inches
