19th Century Bohemian Sandwich Glass Perfume Bottle
This is a jewel of a perfume bottle. This antique perfume glass bottle was made from three layers of glass, cut back to reveal layers and various colors, while creating angular decorative patterning. This type of glass work was called sandwich glass, for its many layers. A three layer- color perfume bottle in this condition is quite rare; the more layers the harder it was to construct, and the harder it is to find. The perfume bottle also has the original glass stopper, which is made of glass and with amazing detail, looking almost miniature-like. It fits perfectly on top, and is covered by an ornate floral silver hinged-lid. There is a flower and leaf patter on the lid, and even around the silver collar of the bottle. The chase work on the silver is really beautiful. This is a fine example of Bohemian glass work from the 1880s with such a mysterious design- white, salmon red and clear glass, almost like a stained glass window, both reveal the liquid contained in the bottle and also disguise it. The perfume bottle is small, perfect for a luxurious fragrance, measuring 3 1/2 by 1 1/4 inches. A fantastic and rare collectible of natural forms and motifs with a bold design, made from blown glass and meticulously cut crystal.
