Rare Large Iridescent Golden Quezal Ceramic Bowl with Flowers

This is a gorgeous, unique iridescent bowl that represents some of the best work of Quetzal Art Glass. Quezal is known for its extremely precise designs and patterns. Often, Quezal glass was decorated with floral motifs reflecting the focus on nature proliferating with the Art Nouveau movement, and as seen on this beautiful presentation bowl, the interior was complemented with a golden iridescence that is unsurpassable. One unique feature of Quezal glass is the brilliant iridescence that has been infused on both the interior and exterior of the glass. As the name of the company indicates, Quetzal was a beautiful rainbow feathered Central American bird, and the bowls reflected this array of colors, from the inside to the exterior. This Quezal glass bowl is also quite unique for its green, gold, opal, and red colors, which are the rarest of the major colors typically used. Quezal is also known for creating glass work and pieces "that look like pottery" as seen in this innovative bowl. On the base, and around the bowl there are small crocuses that create a lovely repeating pattern. The shape of the bowl reflects major design influences of the Italian Renaissance. Signed Quezal on the base. Minor wear at the interior. Measures 5 inches tall by 15 inches in diameter. The Quezal Art Glass & Decorating Company was founded in 1902 by Martin Bach, Nicholas Bach, Thomas Johnson, Adolph Demuth, and Lena Scholtz in Queens, New York, all former employees of Tiffany Company. Quezal art glass ranks with the very best of turn of the 20th century American art glass such as Tiffany's "Favrile" and Steuben pieces; it is known as innovative luxury glass. Wonderful piece for a glass collection.
