French Art Nouveau DeVez Cameo Vase of a Wooded Landscape
Charming French Art Nouveau DeVez cameo vase features a beautiful depiction of trees in a landscape. The base color of the vase is a creamy ivory with just a bit of gloss and the second color is a pinkish red. The third color is a very dark green with hints of blue. The scene depicts pinky coral mountains in the background. A lake is located in the foreground, with finely detailed deep green trees. The combination of a simple glass form with the three colors and cameo work is stunning.
This vase is in perfect condition, having no chips, cracks or nicks. It is 8 3/4" tall x 3 1/2" at it's widest point and 2 1/4" at the base with the mouth being 1 1/8".
This piece was made between 1909 and 1914 under the directorship of Camille Tutre de Varreux. The factory at Pantin produced acid-etched cameo glass with the signature "DeVez". Multiple layers of coloured glass were acid-etched with natural decorations such as florals, landscapes, river views, animals and birds, and popular Art Nouveau designs of the period.
