R. Lalique Le Lys D'Orsay Powder Box with Sepia Patina
A lovely circular René Lalique “Le Lys d’Orsay” powder box, 4 inches in diameter. This little glass powder box is composed of clear and frosted glass with the original sepia patina, circa 1922. The perfumed powder box is signed on the bottom, R.LALIQUE, FRANCE. It features the popular flower "Lys" Camelia pattern made for D'Orsay in the twenties, a flower that became an archetype of the Art Deco period in Europe. The patina is the original and in great condition for its age. This small desk glass piece makes a nice box to hold small item, or can also be used for its original function. It is about 1 3/4 inches in height. There are a couple of small air bubbles visible from the manufacturing of the glass, and the glass is in perfect condition, making this a desirable Lalique piece for an art glass collection. René Lalique (1860-1945) was known for creating luxury glassware items that helped define the aesthetics of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements in France. The pinnacle of his career as a master glass craftsman is considered to be the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Moderns in Paris.
