Gallé French 4-Color Cameo Glass Vase with Foliate Decoration
This is a lovely French cameo glass vase by Emile Gallé, one of the most influential glass artists of the Art Nouveau movement in Europe. Gallé's works received the "grand prix" and greatest honor at the 1889 World Art Fair in Paris. This particular vase was made around 1900 with 4 colors of glass: a clear frosted base which blends with pink and a two-tone acid-etched cameo of light green and a darker, olive green. The cameo depicts an autumnal foliate scene with delicate branches laden with beautifully detailed leaves and seed pods. This finely crafted piece is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, or repairs.
It measures 9 1/2" tall, 2 5/8" in diameter at the mouth, and 4 1/2" in diameter at the base. The "Gallé" signature is in cameo as pictured.
