R. Lalique Frosted Bouquet de Faunes for Guerlain Glass Perfume Bottle

This elegant Rene Lalique frosted glass perfume bottle in the style of "Bouquet de Faunes" was made for Guerlain, Paris. Guerlain is among the oldest cosmetics houses in the world, of highest quality; in 1840 it put its mark on the Parisian fashion scene with is signature perfumes. Originally created to perfume furs, Bouquet de Faunes was created in 1922 by Jacques Guerlain. The Lalique Guerlain collaboration was inspired by Guerlain's strolling one morning in the gardens of the Tuilleries, Paris. Here, he saw a statue of a faun with flowers grouped about its base. He was so struck by " the grace of the faun standing in a bed of flowers and the sweet odors of the blossoms fresh upon the morning air" inspiration enough for a new beautifully packaged smell. Lalique's bottle features four faces around the bottle, 2 of the fauns Guerlain speaks of, and additionally 2 maidens. The maiden’s face on the front of the bottle was taken from the entrance to the Guerlain boutique at 68 Avenue Champs-Elysées, Paris, France. The perfume as well as scent takes on the classical fairy tale narrative of Beauty and the Beast, "La Belle et la Bete" written by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont in 1757. The bottle is etched in two places with the number from the original edition (297), and the stopper as well as the base have the same number (indicating it is the original stopper). The glass bottle is signed by Guerlain, Paris. The bottle measures 3 3/4 inches tall by approximately 2 inches in diameter. It is in perfect condition with no chips or nicks to glass. This frosted white glass bottle is really a beautiful collection item, perhaps to hold perfumes but it also has the wonderful story of a collaboration between two of France's most creative minds during the 1920s, when Paris was "the navel of the world".
